Location: Virginia Holocaust Museum, Richmond
Registration Fee: $30 (reimbursed with successful completion of all class requirements)
Stipend: $200 paid with successful completion of all class requirements

Explore the history of the Holocaust and discover practical ways to bring these lessons into your classroom. This 2½-day, in-person workshop combines historian-led lectures, hands-on activities, and access to Museum resources to help you teach this important topic with confidence. Sessions are connected to Virginia Standards of Learning, giving you tools that meet curriculum requirements while engaging your students.

From Context to Classroom is open to teachers who have never completed the Alexander Lebenstein Teacher Education Institute. To complete class requirements, you must fully participate, which includes pre-reading and the use of the online platform Canvas and a final project. A certificate of completion, the $200 stipend and the reimbursement of the $30 registration fee will be sent to you after the class and when all requirements are met. 

The Alexander Lebenstein Teacher Education Institute is recommended for middle and high school educators who would like to or currently teach the Holocaust in their classrooms. Longwood University’s Professional Studies Office utilizes the descriptions for Renewal Options in the Virginia Licensure Renewal Manual to suggest appropriate professional development points but advises all participants earning those points to work with their educational employing agency to verify and classify each course offered.
